Splash

Aaron Nelson-Moody/Tawx'sin Yexwulla is a member of the Squamish First Nation, who lives and works in Capilano Village on the North Shore of Vancouver.

His Squamish Nation name – Tawx'sin Yexwulla means "Splashing Eagle." According to stories, he was given the name after a canoe trip down the BC coast from Bella Bella as his unique paddling style frequently soaked the paddlers sitting just behind him. The nickname stuck, and to this day most people call him "Splash."

Splash has spent 12 years working with community groups and students in schools in the Squamish and Vancouver areas. As well, he has shared his teachings in Japan and Scotland. He also does traditional storytelling for events or groups.

Splash was assisted by Chris Stewart, Cory Douglas, and students and staff of BCIT and the Aboriginal Services Centre.

Carving code

In addition to carving the housepost, Splash carved a QR code on a copper hand and mounted it on the side of the post. The code links his traditional art form to the digital sphere. It took three attempts to craft a functioning QR code.
